I took the girls to see the Cathedral Basilica in St Louis.
Plans to build the church began in the late 1800's although construction did not begin until 1907 and the building was officially consecrated in 1926.
Even so, the mosaics were not officially completed until 1988.
There are little chapels all around the sanctuary each of which has a particular style of mosaics.
The cathedral actually has the largest collection of mosaics in the world.
All the mosaics together contain 41.5 million glass pieces in more than 7,000 colors and cover 83,000 square feet. Quite impressive!
In the basement is a museum about the mosaics as well as several crypts and memorabilia from the visit of Pope John Paul II.
Outdoors there is a lovely garden area with paths, fountains, and sculptures.
The Angel Of Harmony has wings made of wind chimes!
