Hawaii Trip

So, it all came down this way: Kerry called me back in March and said, "Don't kill me.  They want me to go to a conference in Hawaii from May 10th to the 12th." "Aw man!  You get to go to Hawaii?  That is so not fair!"  I pulled out my calendar to write down the dates.  It wasn't until I was actually looking at the calendar that it hit me.  "You're going to be in Hawaii on May 11th?  Our 25th anniversary?  Are you kidding me??" Neither of us had even realized it!  We both heard "10th" and "12th" but didn't make the connection of it also including the 11th which is our anniversary.  When Kerry first left for Korea, he had planned to save his R&R to come home for our anniversary.  Then Ben set his wedding date for June and we realized Kerry would have to save his R&R for that.  We would miss spending our anniversary together.   It's definitely not the first time that's happened but we had ...

Fractured Foot

We were able to take an unexpected trip back to Hawai'i.  More about that later. This story is about what happened to Katie in Hawai'i. Katie was invited by a friend to go to iTrampoline with a youth group.  Ten minutes into the evening she jumped on a trampoline, landed oddly, and hurt her foot.  She said it was as if her toe was pointed straight down and her foot rolled forward (with the top of her foot towards the floor) instead of backwards (with the bottom of her foot towards the floor).  Here is a picture of all the teens at iTrampoline.  Katie is on the sofa with ice on her foot. Kerry and I were at a Bible study at our church.  I got a call from Katie where I thought she said she hurt her knee.  She was laughing and joking and it didn't sound too bad. Then we got a call from the trampoline place letting us know that Katie had hurt her foot but it didn't look serious and they were putting ice on it.  We saw her later ...

Parasailing

Ben and Noelle were blessed to go parasailing in Hawaii! I wasn't there, and Ben doesn't give me a ton of details other than, "We're going parasailing", and I'm horribly sick so I can't wrap my brain around writing, so I'm just going to post the photos.  They pretty much speak for themselves. I smile every time I look at these because of how happy they look!

Working In Hawaii

Ben and Emily are having a blast in Hawaii. At least, judging by the pictures they are tagged in on Facebook. There is often no caption to the photos so I just have to guess what is going on based on past experience. Ben turned nineteen in Hawaii.  Emily will turn sixteen in Hawaii. I've never missed their birthdays before. Their first two weeks in Hawaii, they were at training camp learning this year's Bible lessons and how to teach them to children.  They had to study a lot before they left and they have to study a lot while they are there.  They have to go to a laundromat to wash the clothes they took with them.    There's just no way to pack for a two-month trip in one suitcase without doing lots of laundry. They held practice clubs so they could work with kids and get hands-on experience.  They have chow lines.  Dishes to wash.  Kids to carry. ...
