Queen of Geometry

Katie has finished Geometry for the year with an average of 99! She has now been crowned "Queen of Geometry".

Bad Combination

Katie really enjoys algebra but she has discovered this year that she does not like geometry. Last week her geometry lesson was about using algebra and geometry together. "Maybe you'll like this lesson better," I told her.  "Maybe adding algebra to geometry will make you like it more." Katie gave me a withering look and responded, "Isn't that like saying I might like a sardine if I dipped it in chocolate first?"

Dog Fight

Sweet little old neighbor man likes to take his dog off the leash while out walking. Too confining for poopsie, I guess. Comes face to face with me and Katie and our three dogs all safely on leashes. His dog determines to murder Ringo. Much fight. Many screaming. I fell flat on my back trying to haul the puppies backwards. Katie managed to drag Ringo backwards and wrap his leash around a tree. Sweet little old neighbor man is wanting to help me off the ground while I am still trying to keep his dog from eating my puppies who are valiantly trying to defend the family honor. Finally convinced him at the top of my lungs to just get his dog out of my yard and I would be able to get myself up. And I did too. I now have one skinned elbow, a skinned foot, and rope (leash) burns to my right arm and right leg.

Metamorphosis

Katie and I received five caterpillars in a cup. They were really small at first but we watched them grow every day. We watched them climb to the top of the cup and form a chrysalis. When each chrysalis had dried and hardened.  We moved each of them to the house designed especially for them. We were very excited when they hatched!! We fed them fruit and brought them fresh flowers every day.   Katie named them all after carbs.  Doughnut, Beignet,  Pancake, French Toast (Frenchy), and Crepe.   Poor Crepe got stuck in his chrysalis and couldn't quite break free before his wings dried.  We eventually used a very small pair of scissors to cut him free but it was too late for his wings.  It was clear he would never fly, but he was a survivor and he could wobble around.   I sat him on a fresh orange slice so he could eat.  We were able to examine him very closely because he couldn't fly away. ...

Harp After Two Months Of Lessons!

Katie is bothered because it isn't "perfect" but I think it's fabulous! This is only after about eight lessons!!

Tasty Snack

I had to go buy Ben a new pair of shoes before he went to work today.  Because Leo.

Emily's First Day At Work

Emily got herself a job!  She applied at a well known chain store that sells craft supplies. She was absolutely thrilled!  Crafting is one of her favorite pastimes.  That girl owns more glue guns than anyone could ever possibly need! After her interview, she came home and very excitedly told us all about it.  They told her she would start at 8:25 the following day and she could hardly wait! The next morning she called me at 8:25 from the parking lot of the store.  "No one is here.  What should I do?  They said I would start at 8:25.... it's 8:25 now but the store is locked, the lights are out and the sign says they don't even open until 10:00!  I don't want to mess up my first day!  What do I do??" It was only later that we realized that "starting at 8:25" and "starting at $8.25" sound the same but mean totally different things.

Archery

Check out the monster bow Katie got to shoot this week at archery!   I've just realized it's a little hard to see in the picture, but it has a stabilizer on the front that extends almost to where the blue shed is in the picture.  You can see it if you look closely!  And squint. Katie said the bow was much heavier than she was used to, but it also had a lot more power.  She said the second she released the arrow it was gone ! Her archery instructor came over to tell me that she's becoming quite good and that she's going to give Peter (the best archer in the class) a run for his money as best archer if she keeps practicing.
