Mama On The Move

While we were in Georgia, we toured the Andersonville Civil War Cemetery.  I grew up going there at least once a year and I always forget that other people in America don't always know the story of the most notorious prison of the Civil War. I once had a friend in Alaska ask me, "What was the Civil War even about?  Didn't some of the states try to become their own country or something?"  I can't imagine what the expression on my face was at the time.  I hope I had good control of my features. Anyway, Katie is covering American History this year and I wanted her to see this so when we cover the Civil War she will have some personal knowledge of what was going on there. I don't really want to write about everything there but here are some pictures and if you want to go google it to learn more, feel free.

While we were in GA, Katie got to do some sewing with my mother. They made a pajama top (which I don't have a picture of for some reason). And a skirt, which I DO have a picture of!

Going on a trip with the dogs along is always entertaining. Especially for Katie, who has her leg in a boot and is trying to keep it propped up to keep the swelling down. Katie has to sit in the middle row of seats and the dogs don't like to stay in the rear by themselves no matter how hard we try to make them. Here are some of the positions they found themselves in on our latest trip to Georgia!

Katie is working on her "Robotics" badge for scouts. One of the requirements involves a  toy car that will follow any line that you draw with a black marker. We had to take the car apart and "hack" it so that it would follow a light instead of a line. Fortunately, I have a friend who is good at this sort of thing.  I have no ability in this area! As an added bonus, our friend was baby sitting a standard poodle on the day we decided to hack the car. I could hardly keep my hands out of that dog's poofy head of hair!   It was AWESOME and just made me happy to plunge my hands in there and rub. The kids did all manage to get the car hacked properly.  It ran in fits and starts when trying to follow the light, but it DID work.  So Katie got that requirement checked off for her badge. And I got poofy therapy. So it was a win/win day!

While we were celebrating Katie's birthday at Red Lobster, Emily was bemoaning the fact that she has a mild allergy to crab.  We had tried buying imitation crab several years ago, only to discover that imitation crab still has some real crab in it. "If they can make tofu into turkey and call it tofurkey, what would they call imitation crab," Emily asked, " Too-fab ?" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

Katie had her birthday party the Saturday after her actual birthday. With a delicious purple cake no less! Her party was at Joann Fabrics where the girls learned to take strips of scrapbooking paper... And turn them into beautiful shiny beads! I was very impressed.  The beads looked like they were made out of ceramic! The guests had a great time picking out colors to use. They each made enough beads to make a bracelet to take home. And sixteen year old Katie is here!
